The Quiet 25x Reset: Why Wagering Requirements Are Finally Trending Down After iGB

If you've read our bonus practicality framework, you know we treat the wagering multiplier as the single most predictive number in an operator's terms. A 200% match at 60x is worse than a 100% match at 25x, every time. For three years the industry drifted the wrong way — from a mid-2023 median of 35x on welcome bonuses to a mid-2026 median that peaked at 42x in Q1.

Then, in the six weeks since iGB London, four tracked operators cut theirs. Three landed at 25x. This is the first coordinated bonus-terms improvement we've measured, and there is a specific reason behind it.

    Who moved

    - Stake.com — welcome bonus rollover cut from 40x to 25x. Max bonus unchanged. Effective for new deposits from June 20. - BitStarz — reduced from 40x to 30x, coupled with a tighter game weighting on live dealer. Net effect: modestly better for slots players, worse for table players. - Hugo Casino — 35x to 25x, and dropped the "bonus expires in 7 days" clause to 14 days. A clean improvement. - Efbet — 45x to 30x on the second-deposit reload only. First deposit unchanged.

Four operators, six weeks, all in the same direction. That is not coincidence.

    Why the shift is happening

Two conversations came up repeatedly in the iGB session halls: regulator scrutiny of "unfair advantage" terms, and affiliate-driven CAC inflation. Both point at the same solution.

Regulators in the UK, Netherlands, and Sweden have all flagged high-wagering welcome bonuses as effectively deceptive when the marketed value cannot be realised by any reasonable player. Rather than face guidance that would force disclosure of "expected value at claim," operators are pre-empting by tightening the terms themselves.

At the same time, comparison and review sites (including us, and the ones ranking above us) have been openly downgrading operators with 45x+ wagering. When the affiliate-driven traffic starts to punish you for headline-friendly-but-unclaimable bonuses, the math changes.

What it means for the pathway

If bonus practicality was your primary reason to sit on the fiat-friendly or beginner-friendly pathway, your list of realistic operators just got wider. Three months ago, only two of our tracked brands offered under-30x on a reasonably-sized welcome. Now it's five.

    What we're watching next

    - Whether the tier-two operators follow. Rakebit is on watch — if it doesn't move by end of Q3, the fit-score gap widens. - The first operator that couples the wagering cut with max-bonus-per-deposit flexibility. So far, all four moves keep the max bonus capped where it was. - Regulator guidance from the Dutch KSA, expected in September. If they mandate a maximum wagering multiplier — the rumour is 25x — the industry follows overnight.

    The bottom line

Read the wagering number. If it starts with a 4, walk. If it starts with a 3, weigh it against the game weighting. If it starts with a 2, that operator has done the work — reward it.
